This year’s Rotary Amigos Project was a great success with everyone working hard all day in a worthy project and knowing at the end of the day that you have made a significant, positive impact in improving the lives of so many children.

Led by our talented construction expert Tom Crosby, the “crew” met the Tijuana Rotarians on the Mexican side of the border, and they in turn guided us to our project at Los Angelinos orphanage for girls—-although in the interim they have gained three little boys.

As soon as we got there Tom got his crew working in the installation of a shingled roof on the outside patio that we had built last year. Tom, Mike Real, Mike Hoey, Al Laghab, Tijuana Rotarians and a member of the Montebello Rotary Club all worked on the roof.

Jack McRae, his two boys, Rosie Mares, Mary Salcedo conducted a series of games and crafts, handed out gifts and toys and kept all of the kids busy and happy, and out of the work area.

Steve Pelletier was the official photographer—but that didn’t last long. He saw the need for additional help and spent most of the day on the roof, in much needed support. The photos are on the Arcadia Rotary website.

A hot dog lunch, with snacks, for the kids and workers was prepared with the help of the Tijuana Rotarians, Rosie, and Mary. Sweat shirts donated by Frank Hall were distributed to all of the kids and the staff.

At the end of the day it was MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Those working on the roof ended up with sore muscles but with a good feeling and warm heart.

The evening ended with a cocktail party, dinner at one of the best steak house’s anywhere, and great fellowship.

SERVICE AND FELLOWSHIP—–THAT’S WHAT ROTARY IS ALL ABOUT!
