Eric Barter introduced the speakers: Officer Larry Peralta of the Arcadia Police Department and four of the Explorer Scouts who serve under his leadership.
An Explorer Scout is a volunteer who has great interest in police work. Explorers range in age between ages 14 and 18.
The members (male and female) serve as observers on ride-a-longs. They also assist the police with searches for evidence, report writing. desk duties, and many of the challenging assignments. In addition, Explorers participate in educational trips, involving visits to other police agencies throughout California and the nation.
Each of the Explorers agreed that their most interesting times came during competitions with other groups.
The Explorers would like to have a group of twelve to fifteen participants. In Arcadia, with eight members, they are several short at this time.
