The Fall weather was perfect. The surrounding Arroyo scenery was spectacular. Among the 10,000 people present at the Rose Bowl were the 2016 Rose Court, including the Rose Queen and her six Rose princesses. On the stage as master of ceremonies was KTLA’s Frank Buckley.
Representing Team Rotary were nine team members, including Arcadia Rotary President Dr. Michael Hoey, his girl friend Jamie Chao, Team Captain Keith Brown, Keith’s friend Don Olender, last year’s Team Captain Rosie Mares, her sister Tricia Mares, Jim Pontello, and Sharon and Dirk L. Hudson. According to Keith Brown’s estimate, Team Rotary has thus far raised over $1,000.
According to KTLA’s Frank Buckley, in this event so far JDRF-LA has raised over $1 2 Million. Part of this is a check from Medtronic presented to Frank Buckley for $450,000. There were significantly more walk teams that qualified for booths than at last year’s walk.
JDRF was founded in Philadelphia in 1970 by several families of victims of Juvenile (Type 1) Diabetes. Today there are 435 chapters, including JDRF-LA.
