Tammy Morales, Art Teacher from Dana Middle School, is Rotary’s November Teacher of the Month. Tammy has been a teacher for 14 years, having earned her BA in Fine Arts from Cal Poly Pomona and her MA in Educational Technology from Azusa Pacific University.
In making the presentation on Friday, Superintendent Joel Shawn reported that the students in Tammy’s classes have a wide range of abilities and their work is showcased in the District Art Show, PTA “Reflections” program, and other contests where student talent can be featured. He commented that Tammy herself is a life-long learner and continually builds on her artistic skills by taking classes, most recently, in watercolor, glass fusing, illustration, clay, digital photography, and silk painting.
In addition to teaching Art, Tammy is Dana Middle School’s Yearbook advisor, teaches Study Skills, hosts the lunchtime Craft Club for students, and has taught Journalism in the AEF Summer School program for ten years. At her school site she is known as a master organizer and a dedicated professional. She is the STAR Testing Coordinator, the 7th grade department chair, and on the Disaster Committee, Leadership Team and School Site Council. Her efforts and dedication have been recognized by PTA with a Very Special Person Award and the Honorary Service Award.
Tammy, a single mom, has raised two fine young men. Son Alec is a helicopter pilot and freshman at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona, and Brayden is a senior at Glendora High School with plans for attending San Diego in the fall. She also has two energetic cats and a border collie who loves to play Frisbee. She enjoys RV traveling and went to 14 states last summer with plans to head to Canada and New York next summer.
