Bob Harbicht filled in as Deputy Finemaster today. He noticed that Gil Stromsoe looked tanned and rested. Gil denied the tan, but admitted that he has just returned from a Hawaiian vacation. He rented Ernie Jensen’s condo outside Honolulu at a “sort of” reduced rate. He received no bill, just a list of chores and repairs to do. After promising to be sure that this bartering income would be properly reported for tax purposes, Gil was recognized for a fine of $50
And Ernie Jensen was also fined $50 for reserving his own condo to stay in for the 2020 Rotary International convention in Honolulu next year.
John Murphy, Tony Parrille, and initially Dave Totten were called upon to describe their shortened work shift at the Field of Honor last week. They had to keep the puddles in the tent roof emptied during the pouring rain, but called off their shift when the thunder and lightning began. John described the shift as the “longest 45 minutes” he can remember. After correcting Deputy Finemaster Bob that it was Bill Gleason and not Dave Totten, the three cohorts – John, Tony, and Bill – were recognized for $50 each.
This weekend is the Rotary International convention in Hamburg, Germany. President-elect John Wilson is not attending because of a more important engagement; his daughter is graduating from high school. She plans to attend Cal Poly SLO in the fall. Congratulations were made to John and his family, along with a recognition for $50.
Song Leader Dan Place was called upon to explain his song choice last week: “All the Way,” a classic Frank Sinatra song. Although Dan thought the club did a fair job with the song, Deputy Finemaster Bob disagreed, describing our performances as “miserable.” Dan was fined $50 for choosing such a difficult piece.
