The RYLA students led the meeting and raised a generous amount of money with recognitions. They started off by recognizing David Vannasdall , probably not coincidentally their principal, in absentia for $100, then proceeded to fill us in on the league championship won by the girls’ cross-country team, the first CIF Finals in 30 years, as well as the national championship won by the boys’ cross-country team. A representative from the boys’ golf team updated us that they lost for the first time in three and a half years last week. Great job, Arcadia High athletes!
Next Gerard Tamparong, who participated in RYLA as a facilitator, was fined $100 for winning the infamous Egg Drop Challenge. He shared that his team won while only using $250 of their $1,000 budget.
Brian Hall was recognized for $50 for participating in a Malcolm Smith 50 mile bike (motorbike?) ride, along with President Matt, who somehow escaped recognition.
Next up was the ever-popular “Who Dat?” game. Ali Khosroabady correctly identified Keith Brown in the first picture and escaped fine-free. Tom Miles lost $50 on a picture of Mike Real, as did Saul Larner who didn’t recognize President Matt. Butch Chinn didn’t recognize his table-mate Yvonne Flint on the back of her husband’s Harley, which cost him $50. And to finish the round, Rosie Mares missed Sho Tay’s photo for $50.
The RYLA Finemasters finished up with “Rotary Trivia.” Tony Parrille was fined $50 because he didn’t know when Paul Harris wrote his last article for The Rotarian magazine – it was in 1947. Brad Miller made some progress in naming the eight countries highlighted in The Rotarian’s “World Round-up, but was ultimately fined $50.
