Finemaster Glenn Oyoung was in full fining mode for today’s recognitions. His first victim was Bob Harbicht whose grandson Patrick teaches Glenn’s daughters swimming lessons at the Embassy Suites pool. Bob noted that Glenn is now notorious for being the first swim dad to bring beer from the bar to the swim practice. But since Bob’s grandson is now earning his own money, Glenn thought there should be some extra funds available and fined Bob $35.
Ever on the lookout for fancy cars, Glenn spotted at least six sports cars in the parking lot on his way in to the meeting, including a Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Corvette. He recognized Imy Dulake proactively as he estimates that Imy will sell houses for at least two out of the six sports car owners with a resulting fine of $37.
Keeping the vehicle theme, Glenn then noticed that John Sun’s Budget Blinds van parked outside. When asked how many Rotarians had purchased blinds from John, one-third of those in the room raised their hands. That strong showing of Rotary support earned John a fine of $100.
… And Glenn noticed Mike Real’s vanity plate which reads “REALFD.” Estimating the yearly cost of the special black and gold plate, the original fine of $25 was increased to $100 when UCLA Bruin Glenn saw that the license plate frame reads “USC Alumni.”
TG Metzger was recognized for his work with the Arcadia Police Foundation. He was one of the founders of the foundation which has raised $150,000 toward providing K9 police dogs for the Arcadia Police Department. Pictured with contributor Mary Hansen, TG was fined $50 for his community service.
Six weeks ago, Mike Hoey’s business building was struck by lightning. Mike noted that the strike broke a window frame and fried a $30,000 piece of diagnostic equipment along with his credit card machine. With such a high cost, Mike was only fined $30.
Anytime Fitness Arcadia, Lori Huisken’s business, has been open since December 28, 2017. They now have over 500 members and Lori explained the purpose of several pieces of equipment shown in photos. Unfortunately, Lori is also Finemaster Glenn’s neighbor and he has been feeling guilty for not working out, so he fined her $100.
Past President Pat Dolphin’s name has been newly engraved on the club’s meeting bell, a bell that has called Arcadia Rotary to order since 1934. This year, for the first time in club history, the Rotary emblem on top of the bell was broken … by President John Wilson. Usually presidents are exempt from fines during their year, but this special case earned President John a fine of $75.
