The Four Way Speech program today was introduced by Tony Parrille, and is one of the annual events that Arcadia Rotary looks forward to each year. We had four speakers from Arcadia High School. To judge the contest we had four members, Ken Mallory, Ed Beranek, Mary Salcedo, and Jim Rider to do the honors. The four students were, in order of their participation, Ray Chao, Andrew Chang, Carl Trigillo, and Winston Chang.
The theme for the speeches is “The Future of Rotary Is In Your Hands”, and any related topic to this theme will be acceptable. The speeches must be from six to eight minutes in length, and will be closely timed. There will be a two point reduction in their score for every fifteen seconds,either plus or minus to the alloted time.
We had four very excellent speeches, representing many hours of preparation and practice. When the final results were in, the winner was Winston Chang. All of the speeches were excellent, but Winstons must have been just a little better. The winner of this contest will go on and compete in the Rotary District 5300 contest at the district conference. The over all winner will receive five thousand dollars, which will take place at the district conference.{Art Killian}
