Four very accomplished and talented young women from Arcadia High School participated in his year’s Arcadia Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Contest. Diana Lam, Sydney Pickering, Stephanie Shen and Morgan Tazdi all were poised and expressive as they made their presentations to the Club.
The purpose of the Four-Way Test Speech Contest is to foster the principles of ethics in every day life as well as in business. The Contest is designed to introduce high school students to Rotary by creating interest through a competitive speech contest sponsored by our Rotary club. The specific goals of the contest are to:
1. Acquaint a large number of youth with Rotary, and specifically, the tenets of the Four-Way Test.
2. Demonstrate and enhance Rotarians’ commitment to youth.
3. Heighten awareness of Rotary among parents, school officials, and the community at large.
4. Recognize, encourage and reward hard work and accomplishment in our youth.
5. Provide an opportunity for Rotarians to participate in a program focusing on the Four-Way Test as our standard of behavior.
Each of the girls did an outstanding job of expressing herself and articulating how using the Four-Way Test’s ethical precepts can contribute to a productive civil life. It was a very close contest and after the judges conferred, Stephanie Shen was declared the winner. Stephanie will represent the Arcadia Rotary Club at the District level contest.
