If he had more time, Fine Master Gerald Tamparong would have fined all 57,000 people who attended the Dodger game last Wednesday. To keep it short, he decided on recognizing only Club Rotarians who he knew were there: Eric Barter, Ernie Jensen, Gil Stromsoe, Allen Yack and Tommy Zampiello. [There may have been others named but, if so, we didn’t catch them all.] Each attendee was asked to identify something unique that happened at the game. Some of the answers? “They sold hot dogs.”, “Vin Scully was there.”, and “They did the wave backwards.” It took Bob Young, who was not a participant in the exercise but was too excited to keep quiet, to shout out that it was a bases-loaded homer on the first pitch served Manny Ramirez in the sixth inning that was a REAL highlight. When all was said and done, it appears only Ernie Jensen was fined $99. Try to figure that out!
Next, Gerald nailed Prexy Imy “Country Girl” Dulake for $100 because her nephew was deeply involved with a very financially successful kung foo movie. Seems only fair to fine Imy for that, right?
Then Gerald asked Terry Earll to tick off all his accomplishments as a long-time [30 years?] member of the Arcadia Board of Realtors, including his Presidency in 1999. Terry did so and was only too happy to cough up $50 for the Club coffers.
Closing out the recognitions, Gerald, in the interest of fairness, offered to fine himself for not wearing his Rotary pin on a recent Rotary outing. He claimed there were 4 times he was caught without his pin so he, being the big spender he is, assessed himself $1 for each occasion for a total of $4. [That’s right: $4!] This did not go over well at all with the meeting attendees who reacted in a very unruly manner. To keep the peace, Imy “Country Girl” Dulake stepped in and, using executive privilege, raised the fine to $100 which seemed to satisfy the crowd.
