I believe we should tap a higher % from our fund raiser but I am not opposed to paying more per member to off set our deficient funds. It may lose members doing that.
I know we have overcharged our members in prior years and we should include a provision to return previous overcharges to members. A non profit should have no surplus only small a amount for working capital about 10 k.
Eliminate R85
Modify Installation Banquet. Have at regular meeting or community center. Save $5k minimum
Eliminate Salute to Seniors. Save $3.2k
Eliminate piano and flowers. Save $2.7k
Review administrative and office expense due to changed circumstances.
Change dues and meal costs based upon above.
I agree with John Murphy in part.
Modify Installation Banquet. Have at regular meeting or community center.
Eliminate Salute to Seniors. Save $3.2k
Eliminate flowers.
Elim teach of the month. RYLA is enough for the students.
Elim police/firefighter of the year with the incentive that they join then we reinstate. In place of teacher of the month, we have report on state/safety of city and one of them can give report.
Elim teacher mini grants. Again, RYLA is enough for the student.
One note on funds from the Field of Honor:
These funds are raised with the understanding of the donors that the funds will be used for Arcadia Rotary’s service projects, after setting aside one-third for veterans projects. The budget being proposed at $26,000 fully utilizes the two-thirds of the funds raised by the Field of Honor. Service projects can be cut, but note on the budget which projects are already being paid from the Field of Honor via Arcadia Rotary Foundation. Field of Honor funds cannot be used to fund Arcadia Rotary Club operations, only service projects.
I agree with Murphy on these points:
Modify Installation Banquet. Have at regular meeting. Save $5k minimum OR MORE. We are a service organization first, funds saved from not having a formal banquet can go into a service project.
Eliminate flowers – use those funds to increase Public Image and Membership Development.
Eliminate Salute to Seniors. Save $3.2k We can use these funds to feed impoverished seniors and/or children through the Rise Against Hunger event or another hands-on event which gives the Rotary experience. This retains members!
Review administrative and office expense due to changed circumstances. May be time to switch the roster to an electronic format.
Change dues and meal costs based upon above. I have no objection to paying more in dues if the funds are used for service and necessities. Of course not all that happy with paying $25 for lunch, but the alternatives are slim.
I agree with Ashley, it may be time to cut back on Teacher of the Month. How does this enrich the students and the community?
As for Teacher Mini-grants perhaps we can award to Teachers in low income school districts, i.e., El Monte or East Los Angeles, where they are starving for help and the help makes a big impact.
RYLA I’d love to see 2 or 5 of these scholarships go to students in El Monte or East Los Angeles. Again the impact would be life-changing for these kids.
