If you sit still long enough you can hear that call. Now, most may say what call is that? Well if you are a member of the Arcadia Rotary, it’s the call for volunteers. When there is a community project in Arcadia or in a neighboring community, the call is made. It may start as a small sound that some members hear in the distance like that of a humming bird flapping its wings as it gathers nectar from plant to plant. As the weeks pass on and announcements are made to bring local projects closer to reality, the call for volunteers start to rise up as a thunder burst that you can hear as though it is right outside your window. As with most calls, some hear the sound of the humming bird’s wings and answer the call. Some wait for the call to be the sound of thunder. Either way, the call is answered and members step up to tackle whatever the task may be.
On December 18, a small group of Arcadian Rotarians and some family members answered the call to help the Monrovia Boy’s and Girl’s club renovate some benches located right outside their local teen center. Led by Peter Mejia, a club staff director, approximately 10-12 tables received new tabletops that the club members could now use to do their homework while sitting under the shade of the big tree. A big thank you goes out to the following Arcadia Rotarians; Michael Danielson, VP Chris Haddow, Jim Pontello, Gil Stromsoe, newest member Jacob Mathew and David Muse. A special thanks goes out to the shining stars of the project, and they are Gil’s son Mike who came by to show us some real know how and Jacob’s wife Patty and son Zach. I hope all of you start listening for that call in the distance. The call may come at any time to go anywhere to help those in need. That is what we do, and that is who we are. We shine. The Arcadia Rotarians are known for being the Greatest Rotary Club in the World.
