Ben Goland invested 9 years in the San Marino Rotary Club before seeing the light and coming over to, you know The Greatest Rotary Club on the Planet, the Arcadia Rotary Club. Now a 30 year Arcadia Rotary Club member, Ben remembered fondly a early club project involving what was called the “Alternative Club” of 20 less advantaged students. Their first club project was the creation of “First Aid Kits” coordinated with other Rotarians Phyllis Tomkins & Joe Miller. This project really helped the kids learn about organizing and following through and understanding some basic business skills.
Ben also assisted in teaching basic financial skills to the Alternative Club members, including how to write checks, save money and all this done with the Federal Savings & Loan now defunct. At this point the club erupted in applause for Ben and revived a old tradition of throwing knotted cloth napkins at Ben, fortunately most Rotarians have very weak throwing arms and Ben was safe. Great job Ben, congratulations on your wonderful tenure with the Arcadia Rotary Club. All the best to you Ben!
