“Back to the Track” by Teri Muse
Pete Siberell and Mike Willman from the Santa Anita Race Track treated our members to a fascinating look into the jockeys, owners, trainers and breeders of the horse racing world. Santa Anita Race Track encompasses over 320 acres of land making it the largest privately held piece of land in LA County. A new feature this year is FREE coffee at Clockers Corner where you can drop by between 4:45 and 10 am to watch the horses work out and enjoy a FREE cup of coffee. Pete said it is amazing to watch this morning ritual…. But I know this Rotarian is in a deep sleep at 4:45 am!
Mike Willman, who is a horse owner himself and the Director of Publicity gave us a brief overview of who to look at for on March 4 when the Rotary will be hosting the Day at the Races, but also encouraged us to follow our instincts when picking horses.
Here’s who to look out for:
Rafael Bejarano, Victor Espinoza, Martin Garcia, Santiago Gonzalez, Mario Gutierrez, David Lopez, Martin Pedroza, Gary Stevens, Joseph Talamo, Mike Smith and Nick Alexander.
See you at Santa Anita on March 4! Get your tickets now before they sell out.
