We will be having the District Governor’s Reception on Friday night, Oct. 2nd, at the Arboretum to honor Randy Pote. This will be a joint meeting with the Sierra Madre, Monrovia, and Duarte Rotary Clubs
Mark your calendars! Our annual Octoberfest will be held on Oct. 3rd at the home of Ernie and Gail Jensen. The festivities will start at 4 pm and finish at 7 pm, and Red Badgers will be free for the event.
John Wilson, Director of the Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills, is looking for 2 volunteers to work on Sunday, Oct. 18th, at 4 pm at the county park. You will meet the buses that are returning the kids from their Team Leadership Conference. Please contact John if you can help out.
Arcadia Rotary’s annual Monday Night Football event will be held on Monday, Oct. 26th. This event will be graciously hosted by Paul and Sandra Kalemkiarian.
Eric Barter announced that our District Foundation will once again furnish 20 wheel chairs to needy recipients in Mexico. He will be looking for volunteers to deliver the wheel chairs at a future date. This is a repeat event that we were involved in during Eric’s presidency.
President Hoey asked Yvonne Flint and Eric Barter to come to the podium. He presented them with certificates of appreciation for all the work they did on the Relay for Life event that was held at the race track last Aug. 1st. Proceeds went to the American Cancer Society.
Teacher of the Year: Foothills Middle School Principal, Ben Acker, introduced Terry Sun as our Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Sun is the 7th Grade Math and Science Teacher and has been teaching for 9 years in the AUSD. A graduate of Cal Poly Pomona, Terry has been active as a Site Tech Coach, BTSA Support Provider, and Basketball Coach in addition to her teaching. She is a recipient of the Profiles in Excellence award for 2013-14. Mr. Acker noted that Terry also leads an exercise class for the Foothill Middle School teachers and administrators. Pres. Mike presented Terry with a monetary gift from the club as well as a pin and congratulatory letter.
