Francine Chu related an email scam she was subjected to. Beware of emails, telephone calls or texts from people you know, that don’t seem genuine( In this case from “Jim Helms”), requesting personal information, or money. They hack someone’s email account and send out messages to many/all of their address book names, requesting information or money. They can appear to be quite legitimate. A similar scam has been going on in the real estate/ escrow industry. They send an email, looking as if it came from escrow, to the Buyer, just before close of escrow, requesting the Buyer to wire his down payment, and giving wire instructions, to the scammer’s account. ALWAYS VERIFY BY TELEPHONE, before giving any private information or money!!!
