1.  We will be dark at the Embassy Suites friday,  November 1, 2013, and will meet at the Santa Anita Golf Course.

2. We will also be dark here friday, November 8, 2013, as we will be meeting with the Rotary Club of San Marino that day. Sign up if you can make it to see the Rose Court.

 3.  Rotary Partners are hosting Octoberfest on Sunday 10/20/2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to honor the Red Badgers at the home of Jim and Sandy Rider, 137 Mauna Loa, Monrovia, CA.   There will be plenty of german beer, authentic german food and german music for everyone.   There is no cost to Red Badgers.

4.  Rosie Mares announced that the annual JDRF ”Walk to Cure Diabetes” will be held at the Rose Bowl on Sunday 10/27/2013.  JDRF (Junior Diabetes Research Foundation) is the leading global organization funding research for Type 1 Diabetes  with the goal to remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D.   Check-in is at 8:00 a.m. and the 5K walk begins at 11:00 a.m.  Rosie is looking for walkers and donors.  The club’s goal is to raise $3,500 and as of 10/11/2013 we are about half way there.   Contact Rosie for more information or contact her Team Page at http://www2.jdrf.org/goto/TeamRotary.

5.  The club’s annual Monday Night Football party will be held on Monday 10/28/2013 at the home of Paul Kalemkiarian, 1328 Rodeo Road, Arcadia, CA.  The cost is $20/person and includes dinner, snaks, beverages and dessert.

6.  District 5300′s “March to End Polio” walkathon will be held on the weekend of 10/26/2013 – 10/27/2013 at the Western Little League Regional Field, San Bernardino, CA.  There will be prizes, food, entertainment and fun for all.  For more information look on District 5300′s web site, or on MarchtoEndPolio.com.  The Gates Foundation has given a generous grant that will triple all donations collected.

7.  Eric Barter announced that the October work party at Camp Trask has been canceled.  The next work party will be on Saturday 11/02/2013  to refurbish the Fort at Camp Trask.   Eric is looking for a chairman to spearhead the work partyon that date as he will be at a conference.  Contact Eric for further information.

8.  The Tongva Indian work project At the Arboretum will be  November 11, and 13,  2013 at 9:00AM to noon and from noon to 3:00PM ( 2 shifts).  Bring your “waders,” if you have them.

9.  Arcadia Teacher of the year is LORIE FELIPPA,  Highland Oaks, Elementary School – Kindergarten teacher. BA from Cal Poly and her Masters from Azusa. Much praise from her principal and Super.
