A. Coming Events:

1 January 25th and 26th, Rotary Amigos trip to Tijuana to build trellises for the water tank and to stain the wood work that the Club recently installed in Mexico. Arcadia Rotary’s group will depart from Arcadia at 6 am on Saturday, January 25 and meet at the Tijuana Cosco at 8 am. Saturday’s events will include (a) the day’s work, followed by (b) a cocktail party, and (c) a steak dinner. (per Dick Martinez). Equipment needed includes screw guns, extension cords, and ladders. (per Tom Crosby). Recently various Rotary clubs (including Arcadia Rotary) donated a van to the orphanage for use in transporting the children to school. (per Dick Martinez).

2. February 7, Arcadia Rotary “Day at the Races,” at Santa Anita Race Track. The sign-up sheet is being passed around. Cost per member is $11. (per Don Milefchik).

3 February 14, Arcadia Rotary Tour of the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena. . Lunch will start at 11:30 in the South Lounge in the Press Box which is accessed by elevator. The tour will begin at 12:00 after lunch and takes about 90 minutes. It will include the press box, interview room, media areas, new locker rooms, the old (circa 1920) lockers, and a trip to the field. Cost to members is $12. Lunch is included. Guests are $35. You can add the cost to your Rotary bill. (per Tony Parille)

4. March 8, Casino Night at the Arcadia Community Center. This is Arcadia Rotary’s major fund-raiser. The Club is asking each member to sell (or buy if you don’t want to sell them) $100 worth of ads. B. Students of the Month for November, 2013 (Announcer: Brian Hall)

1. Athletic Student of the Month: Abel de Castro
In addition to his other achievements, Abel is captain of the football team, and served as President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He plans to attend U.C.L.A. with the goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

2. Performing Arts Student of the Month: Nicole Wei
In addition to her other achievements (which include being a member of the National Honor Society), Nicole is dance captain. She plans to attend U.S.C. with a major in Business.

3. Academic Student of the Month: Nathan Chou
In addition to his other achievements, Nathan served as an AHS peer tutor. Nathan has a grade point average of 4.0. He plans to attend Cal. Tech. and major in computer science.

C. Students of the Month for December, 2013 (Announcer: Brian Hall)

1. Athletic Student of the Month: Christina Huynh
In addition to her other achievements, Christina served as Captain of Girls Varsity Basketball. Christina plans to attend the University of California (Berkeley) and major in public health.

2. Performing Arts Student of the Month: Liam Swan
In addition to his other achievements, Liam served as President of Advanced Drama and performed in a 2011 Japan Tsunami Relief fundraiser. Liam plans to attend New York University and study acting.

3. Academic Student of the Month: Rui Li
In addition to her other achievements, Rui served as an officer on the math team and as a Methodist Hospital volunteer. Rui has a grade point average of 4.0 She plans to attend M.I.T. and major in bio-engineering.
