Announcements were made on the following subjects: (1) Public School Luncheon (April 21); (2) VIP Luncheon (April 29) (3) Pot-of-Gold Dinner (April 30); (4) Award To Arboretum Foundation; and (5) Current Status of Polio Eradication Effort

(1). Arcadia Public School Luncheon (April 21);

Mimi Hennessey announced that the public school luncheon will take place on Thursday, April 21 at the Masonic Center.  Let Joel Shawn know if you wish to purchase tickets.  The price of tickets are $12 apiece.

(2)  VIP Luncheon (April 29);

Mike Real announced that in order for written invitations to be mailed on time to VIP guests, he must be supplied (at least via email) with their names and addresses immediately.

(3)  Pot-of-Gold Dinner (April 30);

(a)    Program Advertisements;

John Murphy announced that members can sign up to place advertisements in the Pot of Gold program.  The sign-up sheets are in the back.

(b)   Tickets;

Jim Kuhn announced that Pot of Gold tickets for guests are available and that stubs can be placed in baskets.

Dick Martinez pointed out that guests can include a member’s spouse or significant other.  The price of tickets are $50 apiece or $90 per couple.   Let him know if person is not attending.  Sign-up sheets are in the back.  If the guest does not pay at the door, the member will be billed in the next quarterly statement.

(c)    Auction Items;

Mike Ojeda announced that members providing auction items should let him know.

(4)  Award To Arboretum Foundation;

Mike Ojeda presented Richard Schulhof, CEO of the Los Angeles County Arboretum, with a check from Arcadia Rotary to the Arboretum Foundation in the amount of $300.

(5) Current Status of Polio Eradication Effort

Bob Novell announced that $15,000 had been collected for the effort to eradicate polio.  Worldwide, there were six countries where known cases of polio remain:  (a) India (one); (b) Afghanistan (one); (c) Nigeria (five); (d) Congo (outbreak); (e) Chad (outbreak); (f) Pakistan, in the tribal region bordering on Afghanistan (twenty-four cases).
