Bob Daeo said that this year’s Monte Carlo Night will be on Nov. 21 at the race track in the Chandelier Room. Tickets for the drawing are $20 and the proceeds support the Red Cross. Bob also said that the Red Cross is selling the Entertainment book for $25, a very good value considering all the discount coupons that are offered. Please call Bob or the Red Cross if you would like to purchase either or both.
The pig was circulated through the room for more donations. Bob Novell reminded us of the reason for the pig and Rotary’s quest to eradicate Polio worldwide. In the last Rotary year, 1,200 cases were reported, a decline of 200 from the prior year. The goal is for complete eradication in two years.
Paul Kalemkiarian announced the need for sponsors for the teams in the softball league. In an effort to keep the program going, he asked for new sponsorships which cost $200. A number of members agreed to be sponsors, and if you are interested, please call Paul.
The date for the walk is Sunday, Nov. 8, at Dodger Stadium, according to Mike Ojeda. The proceeds from the walk will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, a very worthwile charity. Sign-up sheets were on the tables. If you haven’t signed up, please contact Mike if you plan to walk or just make a contribution.
Sho Tay reminded us of the reception which will be held on Wedneday, Nov. 4 from 5:30 to 8:30 at the Arcadia Masonic Center. The admission fee is only $5 and there are mini-seminars starting at 6:15 covering topics ranging from dealing with commercial fraud to obtaining SBA loans. Sho asked for volunteers to work at a Rotary booth to share information about our club and explain the purpose of Rotary to the attendees.
