Subsitute Finemaster Bob Harbicht first called on Ernie Jensen to explain a photo in which he is wearing a cowboy hat and apparently country dancing. After Ernie identified the occasion as a fundraiser a month ago, he mentioned that he has spent the last month in his “other home” with a view of Diamond Head where he watches the sunset every day. Both Kathy Ellison and Keith Brown were visiting other Hawaiian islands during the time of Ernie’s stay, yet he neglected to invite them to visit him. Ernie was fined $25 for each uninvited guest plus $50 for the trip, a total of $100. No rebate was given for the country dancing.
Mahlon Chinn has a new vehicle, an off-road e-bike. He recommends it for uphill rides. Only last week, Brian Hall was recognized for riding his bike up Glendora Mountain Road with no e-assistance, so it seems only fair to fine Mahlon for his unfair advantage. Brian agreed that a fine of $50 seemed appropriate.
Recently returned from a trip to Oklahoma, Eric Barter shared his success at hunting two deer with a black powder rifle from 130 yards. He ate some venison just the night before and was fined $50.
The local newspaper Pasadena Outlook was filled with photos of Rotarians, including Richard Schulhof, Frank Griffith, Imy Dulake, and Kathy Ellison. All of these worthy folks attended a fundraiser for the Los Angeles Arboretum, happily seated at a table purchased by Kathy Ellison. Richard escaped a fine for hosting the event and Kathy got off the hook since she paid for the table, but Imy was fined $25. And then … Kathy Ellison wasn’t off the hook. She has a new car, a “downsized” Mercedes. Finemaster Bob had been feeling bad that she had to pay for the whole table at the fundraiser, but did no longer after seeing her new car. Kathy was ultimately recognized for $50.
Larry Callaham visits his daughter and her family in the Midwest every summer and has been fined for making the same trip each year. This year, he also traveled to Santa Fe for a week, including visits to Los Alamos and Taos. For this new vacation, Larry was fined $50.
Arcadia High School’s football team is celebrating a league championship which resulted in a fine of $50 for AHS principal Brent Forsee. Although Finemaster Ken Chan had previously promised Brent a credit of $25 for each time the team won against their main rival, that fact held no weight with the current Finemaster.
