Shanna Forrestall, from Forrestall Consultanting specializes in social media marketing. The message Shanna brought to the Arcadia Rotary is that we all have “Super Powers” when it comes to social media and we need to realize the power of social media. Whatever we post thru social media has a tremendous effect on other people both in a positive and a negative way.
By using social media we can rally people about a cause and express our opinion and this message can travel around the world in seconds giving us “Super Powers.” Shanna reminded us that these super powers have given people a voice they never had before and the ability to learn things we may not have been exposed to before, but we have to be careful how we use this power. We can’t control what others will say and post, but we can choose to remember there is a human being on the other end of the computer or cell phone and only post things that are kind and considerate to others.
Google tracks what we search and narrows our search filter until what we find is a narrowed perspective that blocks us from having an open mind and hearing other perspectives. Shanna reminded us that we have to make sure we are managing our social media, not allowing our social media to manage us and that we use social media to do good in our community.
Her final parting words were that what we do is more important that what we say.
