On Sunday, November 11, 2012 “Team Rotary” joined “Team Miranda” (as well as numerous other teams) in the Walk for a Cure of Juvenile Diabetes at Dodger Stadium. Among other “Team Rotary” walkers were Team Captain Mike Ojeda, Rosie Mares, Sylvia Ramos, and Arcadia Rotary’s President-Elect Mimi Hennessy. Another Rotarian walking was Dirk Hudson, as a member of both teams (“Team Miranda” having been named for his grand-daughter.)

After twice circling the outside of the stadium, in the final lap the walkers circumnavigated the infield. As the walk was being completed inside the stadium, the bill board displayed in alphabetical order the names of the various teams. At one point the name highlighted was “Team Rotary.”

It should be noted that in addition to members of Arcadia Rotary, there were members of other Rotary Clubs in the Walk. Roger Myers, a one-time resident of Arcadia and a former President of Woodland Hills Rotary was part of “Kings for a Cure,” a team captained by his daughter Julie Myers King, the 1988 Rose Queen. Dirk introduced Roger to Arcadia Rotary’s President-Elect Mimi Hennessy.

The “Kings for a Cure” booth was located next to the “Team Miranda” booth, captained by Dirk’s daughter Maura Hudson Speirs. Julie and Maura are long-time friends, having been classmates at Arcadia High School, and being now members of the Board of Directors of JDRF-L.A.
