General and Ongoing Announcements
1. President Eric Barter was once again with us and in charge of the meeting. Eric disclosed that his vocal cords had been diagnosed with cancer, but it was stage 1 and the prognosis was good.
2. Nikki Adams is out of the hospital and on the road to recovery. (per Andy Bundesmann. )
3. Copies of Rotarian magazines for distribution in the waiting rooms of Medical and Dental offices should be brought to our weekly meetings and placed on the entry table. (per Eric Barter.)
4. Rotary International’s Rose Float is being planned. Our District 5300 is one of the core districts involved. The float helps to promote public awareness of Rotary International and its projects. The cost is about $150,000 to put the float together. Our club needs to raise about $3,000 (e.g., 30 members giving $200 apiece.) Those who purchase a flower for the float (@ $1 per flower) can have their names placed in a hat with the chance to win a ride on the float on New Year’s Day. (per Frank Griffith and Ray Bushnell.)

1. Saturday, September 22, 2012: District Training at the University of Phoenix Learning Center, 3110 E. Guasti Rd., Ontario, California: with Public Relations and Membership Training, 9 a.m. – noon ; Grants Management, 12:45 – 3:45 p.m. Board members should attend. Frank Griffith and Bob Novell plan to attend. (per Mimi Hennessy) One more person is needed to qualify for 2013 – 2014 grants. 2. Monday, September 24, 2012, 10 a.m.: Post Alarm Second Annual Golf Tournament, benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills Glendora Country Club, 310 S. Amelia Ave., Glendora. Check-in at 10 – 10:30 p.m. tee-off at noon. There will also be raffles and a silent auction. 90 have already signed up. (per Rob Post):
3. Monday, September 24, 2012, Taste of Arcadia, 5:30 p.m., Arboretum. Tickets are $50 per person until 5 p.m. tonight (September 21), and $60 thereafter. (per Bruce McCallum). Rotary will have a booth or table distributing water to attendees, to publicize our club and its work. (per Eric Barter) Set-up between 3:30 and 5 p.m. Volunteers needed. (per Rose Mares).
4. Saturday, September 29, 2012, 6 a.m., a trip to Tijuana, Mexico will embark for a Rotary Amigos Project preliminary survey of orphanages, etc. , in need of donated wheelchairs. (per Aaron Rose), as well as clean drinking water for school children. (per Eric Barter)
5. Friday, October 5, 2012, noon. The District Governor Sylvia Whitlock will visit Arcadia Rotary. (per Eric Barter)

7. “Friday, November 2, 2012, District 5300 is sponsoring Teen Leadership Camp for 8th graders to be held 11/02/2012 to 11/04/2012 at the Irvine Regional Outdoor Educational Center boy Scout Camp in Irvine, CA. They need adults to participate as facilitators as the camp (similar to RYLA but instead for 8th graders). If you are interested in being a facilitator there will be a mandatory training seminar on Saturday 09/22/2012 at the University of Phoenix, 3110 E. Guasti Rd., Ontario, CA. 8. Sunday, November 11, 2012, Michael Ojeda will head Team Rotary in the “Walk for a Cure” to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, L.A. Dodger Stadium, between 8 am and 1 pm, with walk commencing at 11 a.m., Dodger Stadium 1000 Elysian Park Ave, Los Angeles, 90012. (per Rosie Mares.) Last year Team Rotary raised $2,000 for J.D.R.F.
