You are invited to join us on November 8  for a healthy walk around Dodger Stadium as we help to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF) in its “Walk to Cure Diabetes.”  Rotary International was one of the organizations which joined with the JDRF in petitioning the United Nations to declare November 14, 2009 “World Diabetes Day.”

Joining our winning team is easy! The first step is to sign up with one of the many Team Captains (such as Dirk’s daughter Maura Hudson Speirs) or register online at www.jdrf.org. The second step is to simply ask your family, friends and neighbors to sponsor you by making a contribution to JDRF, or to walk with you on a team such as “Team Miranda Sarah” (named after Dirk’s four year old grand-daughter who was diagnosed at age three).  You can even fundraise online at  JDRF’s Walk Central to raise even more money. The third step is to join us as we Walk to Cure Diabetes!

Why Walk?

As many as 3 million Americans* have type 1 diabetes, a disease most often diagnosed in childhood that strikes suddenly, lasts a lifetime, and carries the constant threat of deadly complications, including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, and amputation. JDRF’s mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Thanks to dramatic research progress, a cure is now within our reach.

The Walk draws people together in a healthy activity for a worthy cause, raising money to help find a cure for diabetes. It’s fun for families and builds camaraderie among Rotary members and company employees. Above all, it’s an event you will feel good about being a part of.
