Jane came to the United States in 1989 as a foreign student. She enrolled at DePauw University where she spent 9 months studying computers. She and her fellow students would undertake projects which upon completion would become the property of DePauw University. She also studied at the University of Illinois in Chicago.
During the 1990s, Jane attended a Thanksgiving party in Chicago. During a game of “musical chairs” Jane noticed that all during the game the same man was consistently next to her. That man, Jian C. Lin, M.D., eventually became her husband.
Her husband being a resident in psychiatry, the couple next moved to Winnebago, Wisconsin. (Located on the north edge of the city of Oshkosh, Winnebago is an unincorporated community which is the site of the Winnebago Mental Health Institute.) While there the Lins never saw the sun, but enjoyed fishing for sturgeon at Lake Winnebago.
Jane and her husband escaped to California, bringing an end to her “white Christmases.” However, as a resident in psychiatry, her husband was constantly on the move. Periodically, Jane would have to give up her computing job to join her husband as they moved from place to place (e.g., Lexington, Kentucky). For a time, they lived in Bakersfield, California, the site of the Kern County Neurological Medical Group. Jane was determined to stay in California. Her last move was to Arcadia, California. Like so many others before her, Jane promptly fell in love with this city.
The Lins have one child, their son Edward Lin (age 15). Edward is a student at Arcadia High School who enjoys golfing and aspires to be on the varsity team.
From time to time the Lins fly back to Thailand to visit Jane’s in-laws. However, she always enjoys coming back to America. Jane loves life in the U.S.A. which she regards as the land of dreams and success. However, in America nothing is given out gratuitously. Success must be earned.
It was Frank Griffith who sponsored Jane’s entry into the Rotary Club of Arcadia.
