Since we had our Fire Chief at the meeting, there wasn’t time for announcements. Instead, Tony Trabbie gave us an update on the Station Fire and how it was affecting our part of the San Gabriel Valley. The fire was started by an arsonist on Aug. 26th and has destroyed 64 homes, 3 commercial buildings, 74 outbuildings, and has threatened 7,000 homes. As of now, the fire is 42% contained and has burned approximately 150,000 acres, making it the county’s largest fire in history. Chief Trabbie said the target date for containment is Sept. 15th and currently there is a massive effort to clear fire breaks in the hills to our north to protect us from the fire should it move eastward.
