Four-Way Speech Contest
The 4-way speech contest on Friday February 21, gave us a look at 4 bright Arcadia HS speech and debate students and their illustrations of how “Engaging Rotary and Change Lives” the Rotary International President’s theme for the year is accomplished. The contestants were Eric Zhao, Jeffry Chang, Allison Chang & Sukanya Mukherjee.
- Mr. Zhao noted that often we admire superhero’s, teachers and firefighters, why? for there service to others. Eric illustrated how the power of our service to others, applied along with the 4-way test changes lives and engages Rotarians.
- Mr. Chang illustrated how Polio Plus, Rotaract & Interact all areas of rotary engagement determine the value of rotary and change lives.
- Ms. Chang illustrated that Rotary is defined by the impact that its Rotarians have on others by getting involved and improving lives, noting that the life that will be most changed will be yours.
- Ms. Mukherjee attended a Rotary Leadership Conference last year, encouraging her. She quoted one speaker saying that “Like hot air balloons, we are all designed to soar to great heights, but often we are held down by negative thoughts and doubt, sandbagged”.
The contest winner was Ms. Allison Chang with Eric Zhao as her back up. Congratulations and best of luck to all of our 4-way speech contestants for 2014.
